New Posts Daigoji

Daigoji is an important temple of the Shingon sect of Japanese Buddhism and a designated world heritage site. And somehow it has also ended up the semi-official Storm Riding temple, where people pray for good winds and luck in Gear Wars. The large temple complex stands southeast of central Kyoto and includes an entire mountainside. The main temple grounds are located at the base of the mountain and are connected via a hiking trail to several more temple buildings around the summit. In the very back of the lower temple grounds, is the trailhead to the Upper Daigo, Daigoji's original temple grounds, which are located around the summit of the mountain. It takes about one hour to climb the steep trail through the forest without Gravity Gears. Those who separate themselves from the crowds and make the climb are rewarded by more wooden halls set along the quiet forested mountainside and views over the plain as far as Osaka on clear days.

New Posts Aeon Mall

Have you ever wished you could buy absolutely anything in one place? Well, you can't, but Aeon Mall in Kyoto is pretty darn close. It's a little more expensive than your neighborhood supermarket, but here you can get your notebooks and kitchen utensils and whatnot professionally wrapped by cute girls in blue hats, eat anything from Kentucky Fried Chicken to expensive blowfish and raw octopus. 10% off to Echelon staff on the entire complex for reasons unknown and perhaps better left unknown.

New Posts Philosopher's Path

About 2 kilometers long, it's a quite famous walking path, along a river completely lined with cherry blossom trees. During spring, the explosion of pink and white makes The Philosopher's Path one of the most popular cherry viewing spots, as the fallen leaves leave the entire river a faint pink.

Restaurants, cafes, and boutiques can be found along the path, as well as a number of smaller temples and shrines which are a short walk from the canal. The most notable of the temples is Honen-in, with an entrance gate that is quite spectacular especially during the autumn leaf season.

New Posts Tinker Market

Every Sunday, Tuners from all over the country gathers on a side road of Nishiki market, to sell their parts and Gravity Gears on the Tinker Market. It can be rather hard to find the road, the entrance barely visible between raw fish shops, cafés and gyoza stands, but if you get there, the reward is well-worth it, with all the contacts and parts you can get and trade. Strong scent of raw octopus to be damned.

New Posts Storm in a teacup

Fittingly, Kyoto's most cozy Storm Riding café is right between the two rival arenas. While it caters strongly to Storm Riders and Link Tuners, you're not actually allowed to wear Gravity Gears, or even shoes, inside the café - what if you'd trip over one of the café's many cats? As you sit in front of kotatsu tables - tables with a thick cover and a heater underneath - on plush cushions, Peachfuzz, Myu, Skycat, Akitty, Jinyan, Bantora, Sopaw, Iimeow, Malkiril, Deathpuss, Tsukitten, Fured, Pawviv, Zekit, Shironya, Whiskman, Taiga, Kugarsu, Harukat, Angelynx, Rukitkat, Clawbry, Valkat, Quarion and Felix the Cat can come up and snuggle with you.
The café has a backgarden where you can sit too, with a suspiciously empty koi fish pond.

New Posts Cageless Pits

Shaped after the classical Sumo arenas, the Cageless Pit is a huge, classically Japanese building, with a temple roof and two huge wooden statues of Phoenix birds outside the entrance. Inside, the audience gets to sit on comfortable pillows on the stairs leading down to the pit itself - a huge square in the ground, roughly 20meters/65feet for each side, and nothing else. "Only power matters", as the Cageless slogan goes. Down there, the masked Cageless fighters cube against whoever is confident enough to challenge them. Equally masked geisha-dressed staff wanders along the audience, selling Cageless drinks and fighter merchandise.

New Posts 8Roads Arena

The biggest, brightest, newest. Painted in the trademark bright orange and white of the popular sports drink company that has given the arena its name, the 8Roads Arena really stands out from its surroundings. Races on one of the three tracks here always involves at least one participant sponsored by 8Roads, fighting in their orange uniforms, against either one another or an outsider. 8Roads Arena also has a popular merchandise shop, where you can buy t-shirts, posters or coffee cups with your favorite 8Roads Rider™.

New Posts West Championship - Kodaiji

Kodaiji Templegrounds is without any question the most exquisite racing arena it is. Kodaiji used to be quite a famous temple, but an earthquake ruined it, and then it got partly built up again as a championship course.

It starts with an enormous ramp, then a straight through the rock garden to build up speed, with the rocks gradually invading the course so that the riders have to slalom around them. When there is finally so much of them that there's no place to race, bamboo rails appears for the riders to skate over, and straight into the bamboo forest. There, bamboo trunks as thick as lampposts are scattered horizontally, for the racers to jump over or duck under. Following that, a long and completely cylindrical tunnel, also made out of bamboo, that ends with a final short straight spurt into the temple itself, whose entrance acts as the goal.
